Current availability

The subject-specific curriculum is authored but not yet published for completion. Learners may inspect its scope and learning design now. Start, grading, and completion remain unavailable until every listed gate passes.

  • qualified review approval is required
  • reviewer identity, qualification, evidence, and approval date are required

What this course establishes

  • Read a fictional plan set, establish datums and create a coordinated layout/material plan
  • Explain wood movement, load paths, framing, openings, stairs, exterior envelope and finish-installation dependencies
  • Build paper-only estimate, work sequence, inspection, quality and handoff evidence without cutting or constructing

Entry knowledge

  • Arithmetic, fractions, geometry, units, scale drawings and safe document control
  • Ability to distinguish design intent, approved plans, field measurement, cut list, installation record, inspection and as-built
  • Commitment to tool, machine, fall, lifting, temporary-support, electrical, dust, chemical and occupied-space boundaries

Scope boundaries

  • All clients, sites, structures, plans, loads, measurements and materials are fictional. Learners must not alter/load/support a structure; demolish; cut/drill/fasten; operate hand, pneumatic or power tools or woodworking machines; climb ladders/scaffolds/lifts; use fall-arrest systems; rig/lift material; disturb lead, asbestos, silica, mold or unknown coatings; enter confined/occupied hazardous spaces; perform hot work; or submit permits through this course.
  • This is not contractor/carpenter licensure, registered apprenticeship, supervised hours, OSHA training, competent-person status, fall/scaffold/rigging/tool authorization, RRP certification, structural engineering, code approval, permit/inspection, college credit or professional certification.
  • Only current approved project documents, adopted code, engineering where required, manufacturer instructions, verified existing conditions, qualified supervision, permits/inspections and employer controls govern real work. Internal completion or a fastest route never predicts structural safety, code acceptance, craft competence, schedule, certification or employment.

Fastest competency route

Completion is self-paced and competency-based. Prior knowledge may shorten conceptual study only when drawing, measurement, authority, safety and revision evidence remains complete. Hands-on skill, supervised hours, licenses, engineering, competent-person duties, tool/fall authorization, permits and inspections remain external; no fastest-hour, approval, certification or employment promise is made.

  1. Pass diagnostics on plans/layout, wood/material behavior, load paths, framing, openings, stairs, envelope, finishes and safety
  2. Repair every planted defect in the fictional carpentry project audit
  3. Complete and defend the carpentry project dossier

Full self-paced route

  1. Plans, measurement, layout, estimating and material behavior
  2. Load paths, floors/walls/roofs, openings, stairs, envelope and work controls
  3. Interior installation, accessibility, renovation, inspection, handoff and quality
  4. Applied carpentry project dossier

Lesson and assessment map

01

Plans, measurement, layout, estimating, and material behavior

Translate fictional approved documents and field conditions into a coordinated, waste-aware layout and material plan.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

02

Load paths, framing, openings, stairs, envelope, and work controls

Audit a fictional framing and envelope plan without changing engineered or code-governed work.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

03

Interior installation, accessibility, renovation, inspection, and quality

Create a fictional finish/renovation closeout that protects function, accessibility, occupants and evidence.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

Required applied assignment

Carpentry project dossier

Repair the fictional carpentry audit and create one paper-only dossier from approved documents and layout through material selection, framing/load paths, stairs/envelope, finish/accessibility, renovation controls, inspection and handoff. Perform no cutting, fastening, demolition, structural, tool/machine, fall, rigging, hazardous-material or permit work.

  • Document/revision/RFI, datum/layout, takeoff/cut-list and material/moisture record
  • Load-path and floor/wall/roof/opening/stair documentation audit with engineering referrals
  • Temporary stability, access/fall/lift/tool/machine and dust/hazard control plan
  • Envelope/door/window/finish and accessibility installation/verification record
  • Renovation, inspection, as-built, handoff and quality dashboard with duplicate repair, denominators, missingness and balancing measures

Passing standard: 80 of 100 points, with substantive revision required.

Continue after this course

  • Verify licensing, apprenticeship, code, permit, inspection, lead-safe, fall/scaffold and task-authorization requirements for the intended jurisdiction
  • Complete supervised laboratories and field training on layout, hand/power tools, machinery, framing, stairs, envelope, doors/windows, trim, accessibility and repair
  • Maintain approved-drawing, RFI/change, material, moisture, fastener, torque/setup, inspection, as-built and continuing-competence records
