Current availability

The subject-specific curriculum is authored but not yet published for completion. Learners may inspect its scope and learning design now. Start, grading, and completion remain unavailable until every listed gate passes.

  • qualified review approval is required
  • reviewer identity, qualification, evidence, and approval date are required

What this course establishes

  • Translate a fictional infrastructure need into a traceable problem definition, criteria, alternatives and risk register
  • Check paper-only civil calculations and concepts across site, structural, transportation, water and utility interfaces
  • Audit fictional plans, specifications, estimates, permits, submittals, observations, changes and closeout without practicing engineering

Entry knowledge

  • Algebra, geometry, unit conversion, graphs and introductory physics
  • Ability to distinguish source data, assumption, calculation, design criterion, drawing, specification, observation and acceptance record
  • Commitment to public health, safety and welfare, inclusive engagement, environmental stewardship, candor and work within competence

Scope boundaries

  • All clients, communities, sites, parcels, surveys, geotechnical reports, utilities, hydrology, traffic, structures, environmental conditions, codes, permits, calculations, drawings and construction records are fictional. Learners must not offer engineering or surveying services, use a protected title where unlicensed, establish boundaries, enter excavations/confined spaces/traffic or active sites, collect field samples, operate utilities, select criteria for a real project, design or seal work, direct construction, approve substitutions, submit permits or certify compliance through this course.
  • This is not an ABET-accredited degree, FE or PE examination preparation guarantee, EIT/EI designation, engineering or surveying licensure, responsible charge, OSHA training, operator certification, continuing education, permit approval, college credit or professional certification.
  • Only appropriately licensed engineers in responsible charge, licensed surveyors and qualified geotechnical, environmental, transportation, structural, water, accessibility and construction specialists may make real-project decisions under actual law, adopted standards, contracts, authority interpretations and site evidence. Internal completion or a fastest route never predicts licensure, exam performance, design approval, infrastructure performance, professional competence or employment.

Fastest competency route

Completion is self-paced and competency-based. Prior knowledge may shorten conceptual study only when public-welfare, calculation, coordination, evidence and revision work remains complete. Accredited education, supervised experience, FE/PE examinations, board approval, license, responsible charge and continuing education remain external; no fastest-hour, licensure, examination, approval or employment promise is made.

  1. Pass diagnostics on licensure/ethics, project definition, site/geotechnical/survey evidence, core civil systems, calculations and construction documents
  2. Repair every planted defect in the fictional civil project audit
  3. Complete and defend the civil infrastructure basis-of-design dossier

Full self-paced route

  1. Practice pathway, ethics, public needs, survey/site/geotechnical evidence and alternatives
  2. Structural, transportation, hydrology/hydraulics, stormwater, water/wastewater, accessibility and resilience fundamentals
  3. Calculations, plans/specifications, permits, quality control, construction phase and asset closeout
  4. Applied civil infrastructure basis-of-design dossier

Lesson and assessment map

01

Practice pathway, public welfare, project definition, and site evidence

Convert a fictional infrastructure request into an ethically bounded, evidence-based project definition and alternatives plan.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

02

Structural, transportation, water, utility, accessibility, and resilience systems

Check connected civil-system concepts, calculations and failure modes using fictional evidence.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

03

Calculations, documents, permits, quality control, and construction phase

Create a checked fictional civil issue set and preserve design intent through construction and asset handoff.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

Required applied assignment

Civil infrastructure basis-of-design dossier

Repair the fictional civil project audit and create one paper-only dossier from licensure and public-need definition through survey/geotechnical evidence, structural/transportation/water/accessibility systems, checked calculations, documents, permitting, construction and asset closeout. Do not offer or seal engineering/surveying services, use real sites, enter hazards, submit permits, direct work or certify conditions.

  • Licensure/responsible-charge, ethics/conflicts, stakeholder, needs, criteria, alternatives and decision-rights records
  • Survey/datum/easement, utility, geotechnical, environmental and uncertainty evidence register
  • Structural load-path, multimodal transportation, hydrology/hydraulics/stormwater, water/wastewater, accessibility and resilience analyses
  • Calculation/model/check index plus plan/spec/quantity, estimate, issue and permit coordination controls
  • Submittal/RFI/change/nonconformance, observation/testing, closeout and quality dashboard with duplicate repair, denominators, missingness and balancing measures

Passing standard: 80 of 100 points, with substantive revision required.

Continue after this course

  • Verify education, experience, examination, title/practice, discipline, firm, comity and continuing-education rules with the intended engineering board
  • Complete an accredited or board-accepted engineering education and documented supervised experience across analysis, design, communication, ethics and project delivery
  • Maintain criteria, calculations, model, checking, risk, accessibility, environmental, construction and continuing-competence records under responsible charge
