Current availability

The subject-specific curriculum is authored but not yet published for completion. Learners may inspect its scope and learning design now. Start, grading, and completion remain unavailable until every listed gate passes.

  • qualified review approval is required
  • reviewer identity, qualification, evidence, and approval date are required

What this course establishes

  • Map training, licensing, code, assembly, inspection and task-safety gates without claiming finisher or contractor status
  • Analyze fictional board/joint conditions and create a compatible tape, coat, drying, inspection and correction plan
  • Audit fictional materials, dust controls, access plans, finish evidence, repairs, handoff and quality records without performing work

Entry knowledge

  • Careful reading, measurement, fractions, geometry, visual inspection and willingness to stop when substrate, product or hazard status is uncertain
  • Ability to distinguish specified finish, approved sample/mockup, observed defect, acceptance criterion and personal preference
  • Commitment to dust prevention, accessible communication, occupied-space protection and preserving rated/acoustical assemblies

Scope boundaries

  • All rooms, substrates, compounds, coatings, dust, access equipment and records are fictional. Learners must not lift/install board; mix/apply compound; tape, coat, scrape, sand, texture or paint; use stilts, ladders, scaffolds or powered tools; disturb existing finishes; or handle suspected lead/asbestos/silica-containing materials through this course.
  • This is not hands-on trade training, apprenticeship credit, contractor license, scaffold/ladder/stilt authorization, competent-person designation, respirator program, lead/asbestos/silica qualification, rated-assembly certification, inspection authority, college credit or professional certification.
  • Only current approved documents, adopted codes, AHJ, designer, manufacturer, employer, competent/qualified personnel and authorized inspector govern real work. No internal completion, score or fastest route predicts safe technique, employment, finish acceptance or assembly performance.

Fastest competency route

Completion is self-paced and competency-based. Prior knowledge may shorten conceptual study only when project revision, assembly identity, product compatibility, environment, coat sequence, drying, inspection and correction remain traceable. Manual skill, exposure controls and field authority require supervised external routes; no fastest-hour, credential or employment promise is made.

  1. Pass diagnostics on authority, drawings, substrate, systems, sequence, drying, defects, dust, access and quality
  2. Repair every planted defect in the fictional finish audit
  3. Complete and defend the drywall-finish planning and verification dossier

Full self-paced route

  1. Pathway, documents, finish expectations, board/substrate readiness and materials
  2. Joint/tape/fastener/corner systems, coat geometry, drying, lighting and paper process planning
  3. Dust/access/existing-building boundaries, defect diagnosis, repair, handoff and quality
  4. Applied finish planning and verification dossier

Lesson and assessment map

01

Trade pathway, project documents, finish expectations, substrate readiness, and materials

Translate a fictional finish scope into an authority map and a revision-controlled, compatible system/readiness plan.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

02

Joint systems, tape, fasteners, corners, coat geometry, drying, lighting, and inspection

Create a paper-only finishing traveler that coordinates joint mechanics, coat sequence, environment and observable acceptance evidence.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

03

Dust and access boundaries, existing-building hazards, defect diagnosis, repair, handoff, and quality

Audit fictional exposure/access controls and diagnose finish defects from supplied evidence without disturbing surfaces.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

Required applied assignment

Drywall-finish planning and verification dossier

Repair the fictional drywall-finish audit and create one paper-only project dossier from authority and approved documents through substrate readiness, compatible finish system, joint/coat/environment traveler, dust/access/existing-material boundaries, supplied defect diagnosis, correction, handoff and quality. Perform no live installation, mixing, coating, sanding, texture, access-equipment use or surface disturbance.

  • Training, contractor, code, assembly, inspection and task-safety authority matrix
  • Document/assembly/finish/lighting register plus substrate-readiness and product-compatibility evidence
  • Joint/feature and coat/dry/set/environment traveler with accessible inspection and mockup plan
  • Dust/access/existing-material boundary audit plus defect-cause and correction/reinspection chain
  • Handoff and quality dashboard with duplicate repair, denominator, severity, missingness, accessibility and balancing measures

Passing standard: 80 of 100 points, with substantive revision required.

Continue after this course

  • Verify employer/apprenticeship, contractor, permit, adopted-code, assembly, product and inspection requirements for the intended jurisdiction and project
  • Complete supervised hands-on training in substrate review, taping, coating, corner/fastener finishing, controlled sanding, texture and repair on approved systems
  • Maintain current dust, respirator, scaffold/ladder/stilt, lead/asbestos, ergonomics, rated-assembly, accessibility and quality competence
