Current availability
The subject-specific curriculum is authored but not yet published for completion. Learners may inspect its scope and learning design now. Start, grading, and completion remain unavailable until every listed gate passes.
- qualified review approval is required
- reviewer identity, qualification, evidence, and approval date are required
What this course establishes
- Translate an environmental decision question into a documented sampling design, data-quality objectives and QA/QC controls
- Clean and analyze field, laboratory, sensor, spatial, time-series and remote-sensing records without erasing qualifiers, uncertainty or provenance
- Communicate accessible, reproducible findings and limits without misrepresenting exposure, health, causality, regulatory compliance or community conditions
Entry knowledge
- Spreadsheet data cleaning and descriptive statistics
- Basic unit conversion and graph reading
- Ability to follow a written sampling or analytical procedure
Scope boundaries
- Uses synthetic monitoring records only; learners must not collect hazardous samples, enter restricted sites, operate laboratory instruments or disclose precise homes, sacred places, endangered-species locations, personal health records or confidential facility data
- Does not authorize regulatory, compliance, enforcement, medical, toxicological, epidemiological, engineering, laboratory, environmental-justice or emergency decisions and does not replace applicable agencies, Tribes, communities or qualified field, laboratory, GIS, statistics, health, legal and safety professionals
Fastest competency route
Completion is self-paced and competency-based. Prior environmental or data experience shortens study only when every sampling assumption, quality flag, unit, limit, spatial/time transformation, threshold, uncertainty, privacy boundary and revision is demonstrated; no duration, job, credential, regulatory result, health conclusion or environmental outcome is guaranteed.
- Pass diagnostics in decision questions, sampling, QAPPs, blanks, duplicates, calibration, units, detection limits, spatial reference, aggregation, uncertainty and threshold alignment
- Complete the synthetic monitoring audit and reproduce every correction, calculation, map/table and decision boundary from immutable source records
- Correct every duplicate ID, unit mismatch, nondetect-as-zero, missing qualifier, coordinate swap, wrong CRS, invalid timestamp, expired calibration, contaminated blank, duplicate disagreement, holding-time exceedance, hidden spike, cloud pixel, private location and color-only status
Full self-paced route
- Decision questions, sampling design and QA/QC
- Spatial, temporal, sensor and remote-sensing analysis
- Thresholds, community context, accessible communication and stewardship
- Applied environmental evidence package and final assessment
Lesson and assessment map
Decision questions, sampling design, and environmental QA/QC
Design a fit-for-purpose environmental-data project whose population, sampling, measurements and quality controls support a stated decision.
4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.
Spatial, temporal, sensor, and remote-sensing analysis
Create reproducible environmental analyses whose coordinate, time, sensor and imagery assumptions are explicit and tested.
4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.
Thresholds, community context, communication, and stewardship
Interpret environmental evidence with correct benchmarks, community context, privacy, accessibility and decision boundaries.
4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.
Required applied assignment
Build a reproducible fictional environmental monitoring assessment
Use only the supplied synthetic records. Produce decision support without collecting hazardous samples, exposing sensitive locations, diagnosing health, declaring causality or compliance, or replacing an agency, Tribe, community or qualified professional. Current program rules, approved methods, safety plans and authorized reviewers govern real work.
- Decision statement, conceptual model, target population, sampling design, QAPP/SOP/source register, custody and QA/QC acceptance plan
- Immutable raw checksum, corrected analysis table, data dictionary, unit/limit/qualifier logic, QC exception and authorized-disposition ledger, version history and reproducible code/formulas
- Validated spatial/time/sensor/imagery analysis with CRS and boundary lineage, hourly/daily comparison, calibration and cloud-mask checks, uncertainty, sensitivity, missingness and alternative explanations
- Benchmark crosswalk and accessible technical/community/decision briefs with map, table, text summary, privacy and community/Tribal governance plan, correction channel and substantive revision
Passing standard: 85 of 100 points, with substantive revision required.
Continue after this course
- Environmental science, GIS, hydrology, air quality, laboratory science, epidemiology, statistics, remote sensing or data engineering
- Supervised field and laboratory work under an approved QAPP, SOPs and safety plan
- Jurisdiction- and employer-specific credentials checked with their official issuers; this internal course is not a regulatory, laboratory, GIS or professional credential
