Current availability

The subject-specific curriculum is authored but not yet published for completion. Learners may inspect its scope and learning design now. Start, grading, and completion remain unavailable until every listed gate passes.

  • qualified review approval is required
  • reviewer identity, qualification, evidence, and approval date are required

What this course establishes

  • Translate a fashion customer or performance script into an evidence-based design brief, research record, accessible visual concept and controlled specification
  • Develop and evaluate a pattern, toile or sample through measurement, fit, movement, material, construction, safety, accessibility and quality-control evidence
  • Coordinate a small collection or costume package through sourcing, costing, labeling, rights, fittings, continuity, wardrobe, change control and closeout

Entry knowledge

  • Basic drawing, measurement, spreadsheet and document skills
  • Ability to follow machine, tool, fitting and material-safety instructions
  • Willingness to document sources, revisions, approvals and limitations

Scope boundaries

  • Uses fictional clients, performers, bodies, productions, suppliers and products; learners must not operate industrial machines, blades, irons, steamers, dye/solvent/adhesive processes, flame tests, electrical wearables, rigging, distressing, weapons, masks, restrictive garments or hazardous materials without trained supervision, guarding, ventilation, authorization and applicable procedures
  • Does not authorize consumer-product compliance, burn testing, care claims, medical or mobility-device advice, intimate fitting, cultural representation, copying, performer stunts, quick-change placement, production spending, hiring, wage decisions or public release and does not replace patternmakers, cutters, stitchers, drapers, tailors, dyers, milliners, craftspeople, wardrobe supervisors, intimacy/access coordinators, safety staff, qualified laboratories, counsel, unions, cultural authorities or manufacturers

Fastest competency route

Completion is self-paced and competency-based. Prior design or sewing experience shortens study only when every research source, specification, measurement, pattern/sample decision, fit/access need, safety/label/rights check, cost, continuity state and revision is demonstrated; no duration, job, credential, sale, approval, fit, performance, compliance or commercial outcome is guaranteed.

  1. Pass diagnostics in brief, silhouette, line, proportion, color, textile behavior, specification, pattern/sample, fit, ease, movement, construction, labeling, safety, rights, costing and continuity
  2. Complete the synthetic style-line audit and reproduce every measurement, bill-of-material, pattern, sample, fitting, label, continuity, access, cost and revision correction
  3. Correct every unsupported cultural reference, copied artwork, measurement-unit error, negative ease error, grainline defect, untested substitution, unsafe closure, missing consent, inaccessible fastening, machine-guard bypass, false fiber/care/origin claim, flammability gap, continuity conflict, exposed performer data and unapproved cost

Full self-paced route

  1. Brief, research, concept, textile selection and specification
  2. Pattern/sample development, fit, construction, safety and accessibility
  3. Production, labeling, rights, costing, costume continuity and wardrobe
  4. Applied collection or costume package and final assessment

Lesson and assessment map

01

Brief, research, design language, textiles, and specifications

Turn a market or performance need into an original, sourced and buildable design specification.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

02

Pattern and sample development, fit, construction, safety, and accessibility

Develop a traceable sample and evaluate fit, movement, access, construction and hazards without unsafe or nonconsensual practice.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

03

Production, labeling, rights, costing, costume continuity, and wardrobe

Coordinate truthful, safe and traceable production or performance use from sourcing through closeout.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

Required applied assignment

Develop a fictional capsule collection or performance costume package

Use only fictional people, productions, suppliers and products plus safe paper, digital, quarter-scale or supervised sample work. Do not operate hazardous equipment, conduct flame tests, fit/touch a person, copy protected/culturally restricted material, make regulated claims, approve spending or release products without applicable supervision, consent, testing, authority and review.

  • Evidence-based brief, script/market analysis, sourced research and rights/cultural-authority log, range/character matrix, color/material plan, flats/sketches and versioned specifications
  • Measurement/consent protocol, labeled pattern or digital/quarter-scale equivalent, seam/ease checks, toile/sample evidence, fit/movement/access report, construction order, hazard controls, quality checks and revision map
  • Bill of materials, consumption/cost/supplier comparison, schedule, sample/production gates, substitution/change control, textile/care/origin/flammability decision record and accessible digital/product information
  • For fashion: line sheet, size/fit strategy and product QC; for costume: plot, presets, quick changes, continuity, wardrobe/laundry/repair and closeout; both include privacy, rights, inventory, exception and substantive revision records

Passing standard: 85 of 100 points, with substantive revision required.
