Heavy Equipment Operator
Save Heavy Equipment Operator as an interest and organize future course, credential, and career research around it.
Current availability
The subject-specific curriculum is authored but not yet published for completion. Learners may inspect its scope and learning design now. Start, grading, and completion remain unavailable until every listed gate passes.
- qualified review approval is required
- reviewer identity, qualification, evidence, and approval date are required
What this course establishes
- Map training, licensing, competent-person, utility, traffic, lift and task-authority gates without claiming operator status
- Analyze fictional machine/site plans, capacity and stability evidence, inspections, travel paths and work-zone interfaces
- Audit fictional excavation, visibility, electrical, lifting, maintenance, transport, incident, handoff and quality records without operating equipment
Entry knowledge
- Applied arithmetic, measurement, grade and plan reading, spatial reasoning, clear communication and willingness to stop when machine, ground, utility or authority evidence is uncertain
- Ability to distinguish rated capacity, operating envelope, observed condition, hazard, control, acceptance criterion and personal assumption
- Commitment to pedestrian separation, accessible communication, environmental protection and honest inspection/incident records
Scope boundaries
- All machines, loads, sites, utilities, workers and records are fictional. Learners must not start, move, drive, swing, dig, grade, lift, load, tow, transport, fuel, inspect under, maintain or attach equipment; enter an excavation; signal live movement; or approach a machine or power line through this course.
- This is not hands-on operator training, supervised seat time, registered apprenticeship credit, CDL, crane/operator license, rigging or signaling qualification, competent-person designation, traffic-control certification, equipment authorization, college credit or professional certification.
- Only current manufacturer instructions, employer/site procedures, approved work plans, utility owners, competent/qualified persons, engineer where required and the AHJ govern real work. No internal completion, score or fastest route predicts safe operation, licensing, production or jobsite outcome.
Fastest competency route
Completion is self-paced and competency-based. Prior knowledge may shorten conceptual study only when machine/attachment identity, current documents, site conditions, capacity, hazards, controls and decisions remain traceable. Coordination skill, seat time, practical evaluation and field authority require supervised external routes; no fastest-hour, license or employment promise is made.
- Pass diagnostics on authority, machine identity, capacity, site plan, inspection, stability, visibility, excavation, electrical, lift, maintenance and quality
- Repair every planted defect in the fictional equipment-operation audit
- Complete and defend the heavy-equipment operation planning dossier
Full self-paced route
- Pathway, equipment identity, work plans, capacity and pre-operation evidence
- Stability, travel, earthmoving, visibility, traffic, people and utilities
- Lifting boundaries, energy/maintenance, transport, incident response, handoff and quality
- Applied heavy-equipment operation planning dossier
Lesson and assessment map
Pathway, machine identity, work plans, capacity, and pre-operation evidence
Translate a fictional work package into an authority map and configuration-controlled readiness plan.
4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.
Stability, travel, earthmoving, visibility, traffic, people, and utilities
Build a paper-only movement and earthwork plan that integrates ground, machine, people, utilities and changing geometry.
4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.
Lifting boundaries, maintenance, transport, incident response, handoff, and quality
Audit fictional non-routine tasks and life-cycle records without performing lifting, repair, loading or recovery.
4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.
Required applied assignment
Heavy-equipment operation planning dossier
Repair the fictional equipment-operation audit and create one paper-only dossier from authority and exact machine identity through work plan, inspection, stability, movement, visibility, utilities, excavation, lifting boundary, maintenance, transport, incident response, handoff and quality. Perform no live operation, signaling, digging, lifting, loading, transport or maintenance.
- Training, licensing, transport, competent-person and task-authority matrix
- Machine/attachment/configuration, controlled-document, capacity and inspection evidence
- Stability, route, visibility, spotter, utility, electrical and excavation plan
- Lifting hold point, maintenance/blocking critique, transport and incident-response audit
- Shift handoff and quality dashboard with duplicate repair, denominators, severity, missingness, accessibility and balancing measures
Passing standard: 80 of 100 points, with substantive revision required.
Continue after this course
- Verify employer, apprenticeship, licensing, transport, utility, excavation, lifting, traffic and environmental requirements for the intended jurisdiction and equipment
- Complete supervised simulator and field training for each machine, attachment and task under an authorized trainer
- Maintain documented inspection, signal, visibility, emergency, load/stability and maintenance competence
