Current availability
The subject-specific curriculum is authored but not yet published for completion. Learners may inspect its scope and learning design now. Start, grading, and completion remain unavailable until every listed gate passes.
- qualified review approval is required
- reviewer identity, qualification, evidence, and approval date are required
What this course establishes
- Survey a fictional project and separate substrate/moisture, coating-compatibility, hazardous-material and access decisions
- Create fictional preparation, coating, quantity, sequencing, environmental and quality plans from controlled product data
- Audit fictional application, safety, cleanup, handoff and quality evidence without disturbing surfaces or applying products
Entry knowledge
- Arithmetic, area and volume, ratios, units, careful label/specification reading and basic construction sequencing
- Ability to distinguish substrate, contaminant, existing coating, preparation profile, primer, finish coat, cure and acceptance criterion
- Commitment to occupant protection, accessible communication, ventilation, fall prevention, fire prevention and stop-work authority
Scope boundaries
- All buildings, occupants, surfaces, samples, products and records are fictional. Learners must not scrape, sand, grind, burn, chemically strip, pressure wash, spray, mix or apply coatings; disturb suspected lead/asbestos/silica/mold; erect/use ladders, scaffolds or lifts; enter confined spaces; select/use respirators; handle flammables; or dispose of waste through this course.
- This is not apprenticeship credit, supervised experience, contractor or business license, EPA/state RRP firm or renovator certification, lead/asbestos inspector or abatement credential, scaffold competent-person designation, lift authorization, respiratory medical clearance/fit test, hazardous-waste authority, college credit or professional certification.
- Only current law, site assessment, owner/customer specification, safety data, technical data, manufacturer instructions, qualified personnel and authorities having jurisdiction govern real work. Internal completion or a fastest route never predicts safe performance, coating life, certification, code approval or employment.
Fastest competency route
Completion is self-paced and competency-based. Prior knowledge may shorten conceptual study only when substrate, hazard, product, environment and inspection evidence remain traceable. Hands-on proficiency, regulated credentials and supervised hours remain external; no fastest-hour, certification, warranty or employment promise is made.
- Pass diagnostics on scope, substrate, moisture, hazards, preparation, coating selection, estimating, environment, access, application and inspection
- Repair every planted defect in the fictional painting audit
- Complete and defend the coating project dossier
Full self-paced route
- Survey, substrate, moisture, existing coating, contaminants and scope
- Preparation, coating systems, estimating, access and environmental controls
- Application, film build, defects, cleanup, handoff and quality
- Applied coating project dossier
Lesson and assessment map
Project survey, substrates, moisture, hazards, and scope
Turn a fictional painting request into a controlled substrate, hazard, occupancy and scope baseline.
4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.
Preparation, coating systems, estimating, access, and environmental controls
Design a fictional compatible coating system and defensible production plan from controlled evidence.
4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.
Application control, defects, cleanup, handoff, and quality
Audit fictional coating application and closeout evidence against controlled requirements.
4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.
Required applied assignment
Painting and coating project dossier
Repair the fictional painting audit and create one paper-only dossier from survey and hazards through preparation, coating selection, estimate, access, environment, application, defects, cleanup, handoff and quality. Perform no disturbance, access-equipment use, mixing, spraying, application, exposure-control selection or waste handling.
- Scope, surface, substrate, defect, moisture, hazard and occupant-access matrix
- Preparation and coating-system compatibility register with environmental/recoat controls
- Transparent quantity/labor estimate and access, ventilation, ignition and chemical boundaries
- Application release, area/batch/environment log and defect-cause-repair evidence
- Cleanup, waste, cure/re-entry, handoff and quality dashboard with duplicate repair, denominators, missingness and balancing measures
Passing standard: 80 of 100 points, with substantive revision required.
Continue after this course
- Verify apprenticeship, contractor, RRP, lead/asbestos, respiratory, access-equipment, environmental and disposal requirements for the intended location and work
- Complete supervised shop/field practice on approved substrates, preparation systems, tools, access systems and coating families
- Maintain product, batch, environmental, preparation, wet/dry film, inspection, exposure-control and continuing-competence records
