Current availability

The subject-specific curriculum is authored but not yet published for completion. Learners may inspect its scope and learning design now. Start, grading, and completion remain unavailable until every listed gate passes.

  • qualified review approval is required
  • reviewer identity, qualification, evidence, and approval date are required

What this course establishes

  • Translate fictional P&IDs, plans and isometrics into a controlled line, component, spool and support register
  • Plan fictional layout, material takeoff, fabrication, joining, installation and testing with explicit qualification and safety hold points
  • Audit fictional mechanical-integrity, commissioning, handoff and quality evidence without touching or pressurizing a system

Entry knowledge

  • Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, units, drawing literacy and disciplined communication
  • Ability to distinguish service, fluid, design condition, line number, specification/class, material, schedule/thickness, joint, valve, support and test boundary
  • Commitment to energy isolation, line-of-fire control, material traceability, accessible communication and stop-work authority

Scope boundaries

  • All facilities, lines, fluids, pressures, temperatures, components, welds, tests and records are fictional. Learners must not open/break a line; operate a valve; drain, vent, purge, isolate, lock out, hot tap or enter a system; weld, braze, solder, solvent-cement, thread, groove, flange, torque, rig, lift, align, test, pressurize or commission equipment through this course.
  • This is not apprenticeship credit, supervised hours, journey status, trade/contractor or gas license, welding/brazing performance qualification, medical-gas credential, hot-work authorization, confined-space role, authorized-employee status, rigging/crane qualification, inspection delegation, college credit or professional certification.
  • Only current controlled engineering documents, code edition, line list, piping/material specification, approved procedures, owner/operator controls, qualified personnel and authorities having jurisdiction govern real work. Internal completion or a fastest route never predicts safe performance, leak tightness, code acceptance, qualification or employment.

Fastest competency route

Completion is self-paced and competency-based. Prior knowledge may shorten conceptual study only when line identity, specification, material, joint, support, energy and test evidence remain traceable. Hands-on proficiency, supervised hours and qualifications remain external; no fastest-hour, journey, license or employment promise is made.

  1. Pass diagnostics on drawings, specifications, materials, layout, fittings, valves, supports, joining, energy control, testing and commissioning
  2. Repair every planted defect in the fictional piping audit
  3. Complete and defend the piping work-package dossier

Full self-paced route

  1. System documents, line identity, specifications, materials and takeoff
  2. Layout, fabrication, joints, valves, supports, thermal movement and installation
  3. Isolation, testing, mechanical integrity, commissioning, handoff and quality
  4. Applied piping work-package dossier

Lesson and assessment map

01

System documents, line identity, specifications, materials, and takeoff

Translate a fictional piping scope into a revision-controlled line and material baseline.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

02

Layout, joints, valves, supports, thermal movement, and installation

Plan fictional fabrication and installation with controlled geometry, joint quality and load paths.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

03

Isolation, pressure testing, mechanical integrity, commissioning, and quality

Audit fictional line-breaking, test and turnover evidence without operating or energizing a system.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

Required applied assignment

Pipefitting work-package and turnover dossier

Repair the fictional piping audit and create one paper-only dossier from documents and materials through layout, joints, supports, isolation, testing, commissioning and quality. Perform no line breaking, valve operation, joining, rigging, energy control, confined-space entry, hot work, testing, pressurization or commissioning.

  • Document, line, fluid/design-condition, material, component and traceability matrix
  • Isometric takeoff, spool/layout, offset/slope, valve and joint/qualification plan
  • Support, thermal-movement, access, rigging and installation hold points
  • Isolation/line-breaking and pressure-test boundary with instruments, exclusion and stored-energy controls
  • Mechanical-integrity turnover and quality dashboard with duplicate repair, denominators, missingness and balancing measures

Passing standard: 80 of 100 points, with substantive revision required.

Continue after this course

  • Verify registered-apprenticeship, licensing, code, welding/brazing, medical-gas, refrigerant, energy-control, confined-space and rigging requirements for the intended location and employer
  • Complete supervised shop and field training on the exact materials, joining processes, supports, valves, instruments, systems and tests
  • Maintain demonstrated material-control, joint, inspection, test, restoration, safety and continuing-competence records
