Current availability

The subject-specific curriculum is authored but not yet published for completion. Learners may inspect its scope and learning design now. Start, grading, and completion remain unavailable until every listed gate passes.

  • qualified review approval is required
  • reviewer identity, qualification, evidence, and approval date are required

What this course establishes

  • Survey a fictional steep- or low-slope roof and separate structure, deck, moisture, drainage, ventilation and covering defects
  • Create fictional tear-off, substrate, water-control, material, layout, access, weather and quantity plans from controlled requirements
  • Audit fictional installation, leak diagnosis, inspection, handoff and quality evidence without accessing or disturbing a roof

Entry knowledge

  • Arithmetic, area, slope, units, drawing and specification literacy, weather awareness and disciplined stop-work communication
  • Ability to distinguish structure/deck, air/vapor/thermal layers, underlayment, membrane/covering, flashing, drainage, edge and penetration
  • Commitment to fall prevention, public/occupant protection, heat and weather controls, accessible routes and material traceability

Scope boundaries

  • All buildings, roofs, occupants, samples, products and records are fictional. Learners must not access a roof; climb or use ladders, scaffolds, lifts or hoists; erect fall protection; tear off, cut, grind, torch, heat, adhere, fasten or install roofing; disturb suspected asbestos/lead/silica/mold; handle hot asphalt, propane, solvents or sharp/heavy materials; or perform leak testing through this course.
  • This is not apprenticeship credit, supervised experience, contractor/business license, fall-protection competent-person or qualified-person designation, scaffold/lift/hoist authorization, hot-work permit, asbestos/lead credential, structural inspection authority, solar/electrical authorization, manufacturer approval, college credit or professional certification.
  • Only current adopted code, structural/design documents, manufacturer instructions and approvals, site-specific fall/weather/fire plans, qualified personnel and authorities having jurisdiction govern real work. Internal completion or a fastest route never predicts safe performance, watertightness, wind/fire compliance, warranty acceptance or employment.

Fastest competency route

Completion is self-paced and competency-based. Prior knowledge may shorten conceptual study only when assembly, water path, material, weather, access and inspection evidence remain traceable. Hands-on proficiency, supervised hours, fall/access qualifications and manufacturer approvals remain external; no fastest-hour, credential, warranty or employment promise is made.

  1. Pass diagnostics on roof assembly, moisture, drainage, materials, quantities, fall/access, weather, preparation, installation and inspection
  2. Repair every planted defect in the fictional roofing audit
  3. Complete and defend the roofing project dossier

Full self-paced route

  1. Survey, assembly, deck, moisture, drainage, ventilation and scope
  2. System selection, estimating, tear-off, access, weather and staging
  3. Installation sequence, flashing, inspection, leak diagnosis, handoff and quality
  4. Applied roofing project dossier

Lesson and assessment map

01

Roof survey, assembly, moisture, drainage, and scope

Translate a fictional roof request into a safe, traceable assembly and failure model.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

02

Roof systems, estimating, fall/access controls, weather, and staging

Create a fictional material and production plan that preserves structural, weather and fall boundaries.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

03

Installation sequence, flashing, inspection, leak diagnosis, and quality

Audit fictional roof installation and closeout evidence against assembly and water-management requirements.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

Required applied assignment

Roofing project and water-management dossier

Repair the fictional roofing audit and create one paper-only dossier from survey and assembly through system selection, estimate, fall/weather controls, installation details, inspection, leak diagnosis, handoff and quality. Perform no roof access, material disturbance, fall-system setup, hot work, application, fastening, lifting or testing.

  • Roof-zone, assembly, defect, moisture, drainage, structure and hazard matrix
  • System/product approval, area/accessory takeoff, layout, waste and staging/load evidence
  • Fall/access/rescue, weather/heat, public, fire and regulated-material boundaries
  • Deck release, layer sequence, fastening/adhesion, flashing and detail inspection records
  • Leak diagnosis, warranty/maintenance handoff and quality dashboard with duplicate repair, denominators, missingness and balancing measures

Passing standard: 80 of 100 points, with substantive revision required.

Continue after this course

  • Verify apprenticeship, licensing, code, fall/access, hazardous-material, hot-work, environmental and product-approval requirements for the intended location and roof system
  • Complete supervised shop and field training on exact steep- and low-slope assemblies, tools, access systems and weather conditions
  • Maintain demonstrated deck, material, attachment/adhesion, flashing, inspection, fall-control, heat and continuing-competence records
