Current availability
The subject-specific curriculum is authored but not yet published for completion. Learners may inspect its scope and learning design now. Start, grading, and completion remain unavailable until every listed gate passes.
- qualified review approval is required
- reviewer identity, qualification, evidence, and approval date are required
What this course establishes
- Translate fictional drawings/models and specifications into controlled sheet-metal assemblies, patterns and bills of material
- Plan fictional cutting, forming, joining, duct/architectural installation and testing with explicit safety and qualification hold points
- Audit fictional leakage, airflow-interface, maintenance, handoff and quality evidence without operating machinery or a live system
Entry knowledge
- Algebra, geometry, trigonometry, units, drawing literacy and careful measurement
- Ability to distinguish material, gauge/thickness, finish, pattern, seam/joint, reinforcement, support, pressure class, airflow path and acceptance record
- Commitment to machine guarding, energy control, sharp-edge protection, ventilation, fall prevention and accessible communication
Scope boundaries
- All systems, drawings, machines, materials, airflows, readings and records are fictional. Learners must not operate, set up, reach into, service or lock out shears, brakes, rolls, punches, saws, lasers, plasma tables or forming machinery; cut/form sharp metal; weld, braze, solder, rivet, seal, rig, lift, climb, pressure-test, traverse, balance or modify a live HVAC system through this course.
- This is not apprenticeship credit, supervised hours, journey status, contractor/trade license, machine authorization, authorized-employee status, welding/brazing qualification, hot-work permit, rigging/crane or lift qualification, testing-adjusting-balancing certification, inspection delegation, college credit or professional certification.
- Only current controlled drawings/specifications, adopted codes, manufacturer data, employer machine and energy procedures, qualified personnel and authorities having jurisdiction govern real work. Internal completion or a fastest route never predicts safe performance, fit, leakage, airflow, code acceptance, certification or employment.
Fastest competency route
Completion is self-paced and competency-based. Prior knowledge may shorten conceptual study only when revision, geometry, material, joint, support, pressure and test evidence remain traceable. Hands-on proficiency, supervised hours, machine authorization and trade credentials remain external; no fastest-hour, journey or employment promise is made.
- Pass diagnostics on drawings, materials, patterns, forming, seams, duct systems, supports, safety, leakage and airflow
- Repair every planted defect in the fictional sheet-metal audit
- Complete and defend the fabrication-and-installation dossier
Full self-paced route
- Documents, materials, pattern development and fabrication planning
- Machines, forming, seams, joints, supports and installation
- Duct integrity, testing/balancing interfaces, maintenance, handoff and quality
- Applied fabrication-and-installation dossier
Lesson and assessment map
Documents, materials, pattern development, and fabrication planning
Convert fictional design requirements into a controlled material, geometry and fabrication plan.
4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.
Machines, forming, seams, joints, supports, and installation
Plan fictional shop and field work with controlled machinery, joints, load paths and access.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.
Required applied assignment
Sheet-metal fabrication and installation dossier
Repair the fictional sheet-metal audit and create one paper-only dossier from documents and patterns through fabrication, joints, supports, duct testing, airflow interfaces, commissioning and quality. Perform no machine operation, cutting/forming, joining, rigging, energized-system work, pressure testing or balancing.
- Document/system/material/thickness and assembly register
- Pattern/true-length, blank/allowance, first-article and fabrication sequence
- Machine/guarding/energy, joint/hot-work, support/reinforcement, access and rigging hold points
- Air-path, pressure boundary, leakage test, instrument and TAB dependency evidence
- Commissioning handoff and quality dashboard with duplicate repair, denominators, missingness and balancing measures
Passing standard: 80 of 100 points, with substantive revision required.
Continue after this course
- Verify apprenticeship, licensing, machine, joining, fall/access, rigging and testing/balancing requirements for the intended work
- Complete supervised shop and field training on exact machines, controls, metals, seams, joining processes, duct systems and instruments
- Maintain demonstrated fabrication, joint, support, test, safety and continuing-competence records
