Current availability

The subject-specific curriculum is authored but not yet published for completion. Learners may inspect its scope and learning design now. Start, grading, and completion remain unavailable until every listed gate passes.

  • qualified review approval is required
  • reviewer identity, qualification, evidence, and approval date are required

What this course establishes

  • Map AVMA CVTEA education, VTNE, jurisdiction credential and supervision gates without claiming licensure or veterinarian authority
  • Audit fictional patient intake, low-stress handling, nursing assessment, specimen, imaging, medication, anesthesia, surgery, dentistry and recovery workflows
  • Build fictional infection-control, controlled-substance, record, handoff, client-communication and quality-improvement systems

Entry knowledge

  • Basic biology, anatomy and physiology, arithmetic with units, scientific literacy, animal-welfare awareness and clear communication
  • Ability to distinguish client report, technician observation, measured nursing data, veterinarian diagnosis, veterinarian order and patient response
  • Commitment to stop and escalate when patient identity, species, handling risk, supervision, medication, equipment, infection, welfare or emergency status is uncertain

Scope boundaries

  • All patients, clients, staff, facilities, specimens, images, drugs and records are fictional. Learners must not restrain or treat a real animal; diagnose, prognose or prescribe; calculate or administer a real dose; collect a real specimen; place a catheter; intubate; induce or monitor real anesthesia; expose radiography; perform dentistry, surgery or euthanasia; dispense a drug; or create a clinical or regulatory record through this course.
  • This is not an AVMA CVTEA-accredited veterinary-technology program, degree, clinical rotation, VTNE eligibility or preparation guarantee, CVT/RVT/LVT credential, state authorization, continuing education, college credit or authority to use a protected title. The applicable program, AAVSB and jurisdiction decide eligibility and scope.
  • No completion time, score or internal certificate predicts admission, credentialing, examination, employment, clinical competence, patient outcome or acceptance by a school, employer or board. Real animal concerns require an authorized veterinarian and verified local emergency pathway.

Fastest competency route

Completion is self-paced and competency-based. Prior knowledge can shorten study only when scope, supervision, patient identity, evidence, safety, documentation and outcomes remain traceable across varied simulations; no time, VTNE result, credential, employment or animal outcome is guaranteed.

  1. Pass diagnostics on credential gates, nursing evidence, laboratory, medication, anesthesia, infection control, records and quality
  2. Repair all planted defects in the fictional veterinary-technician case audit
  3. Complete and defend the simulation-only veterinary nursing and safety dossier

Full self-paced route

  1. Credential, scope, identity, triage data, handling, welfare and client communication
  2. Laboratory, imaging, medication, anesthesia, surgery, dentistry and recovery controls
  3. Infection prevention, occupational safety, records, handoff, controlled substances and quality
  4. Applied veterinary nursing and safety dossier

Lesson and assessment map

01

Credential, scope, patient intake, nursing evidence, and welfare

Begin a fictional encounter only when technician authority, veterinarian supervision, patient identity, handling safety and nursing evidence are adequate.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

02

Laboratory, imaging, medication, anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, and recovery

Maintain fictional diagnostic and treatment support through verified orders, calculations, equipment, monitoring and closed-loop reassessment.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

03

Infection prevention, occupational safety, records, handoff, and quality

Control fictional zoonotic, exposure, continuity, inventory and quality risks with attributable evidence and verified escalation.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

Required applied assignment

Veterinary nursing and safety dossier

Repair the fictional audit and design one complete simulation from credential/supervision and patient identity through nursing evidence, diagnostic support, medication/anesthesia controls, infection prevention, record/handoff and quality review. Use fictional data only; never handle, diagnose, prescribe for, calculate/administer a dose to, treat or create a real record for an animal.

  • Credential, protected-title, scope, delegation and supervision matrix tied to the intended jurisdiction
  • Patient identity, triage, low-stress handling, welfare, nursing observation and accessible client-communication record
  • Specimen/imaging, simulation-only medication calculation, controlled-substance, anesthesia/procedure and recovery controls
  • Infection/isolation, exposure, record correction, structured handoff and privacy playbooks
  • Defect reconciliation plus a quality dashboard with unique denominator, case mix, missingness and balancing measures

Passing standard: 80 of 100 points, with substantive revision required.
