Current availability

The subject-specific curriculum is authored but not yet published for completion. Learners may inspect its scope and learning design now. Start, grading, and completion remain unavailable until every listed gate passes.

  • qualified review approval is required
  • reviewer identity, qualification, evidence, and approval date are required

What this course establishes

  • Trace fictional drinking-water and wastewater flows through unit processes and mass balances
  • Calculate and interpret fictional flow, loading, dose, detention, removal, inventory and trend evidence with units and assumptions
  • Build paper-only sampling, process-control, alarm, reporting and emergency-response records without operating a plant or making compliance decisions

Entry knowledge

  • Arithmetic, ratios, unit conversion, algebra, graphs, basic chemistry/biology and exact recordkeeping
  • Ability to distinguish source/collection, treatment, residuals, storage/distribution or discharge/reuse, sampling, laboratory result, operating control, compliance limit and public-health response
  • Commitment to certified-operator authority, approved methods, chain of custody, chemical/biological safety, confined-space and hazardous-energy boundaries

Scope boundaries

  • All facilities, samples, permits, populations, alarms and results are fictional. Learners must not operate equipment; change pumps, valves, gates, feed rates, setpoints or SCADA; collect regulatory samples; enter tanks, wet wells, sewers or confined spaces; open processes; handle chlorine, hypochlorite, ammonia, acids, bases, polymers, compressed gases, sewage, biosolids or laboratory reagents; apply locks; or issue compliance/public-health statements through this course.
  • This is not state/Tribal operator certification, responsible-charge designation, supervised operating experience, laboratory certification, permit-signatory authority, confined-space role, HAZWOPER/respiratory/chemical qualification, apprenticeship, college credit, license or professional certification.
  • Only current permits, regulations, approved analytical methods, certified laboratories, plant-specific control strategies, manufacturer instructions, emergency plans, qualified staff and regulators govern real operation. Internal completion or a fastest route never predicts certification, safe water, compliant effluent, public-health protection or employment.

Fastest competency route

Completion is self-paced and competency-based. Prior knowledge may shorten conceptual study only when calculations, process reasoning, sampling, compliance and revision evidence remain complete. Certification exams, supervised operating experience, responsible-charge authority and plant-specific practical qualification remain external; no fastest-hour, certification or employment promise is made.

  1. Pass diagnostics on treatment trains, calculations, controls, sampling, compliance, safety and incident response
  2. Repair every planted defect in the fictional plant audit
  3. Complete and defend the process-control and compliance dossier

Full self-paced route

  1. Water quality, flow, treatment trains and operating calculations
  2. Process monitoring, sampling, laboratory quality and regulatory records
  3. Safety, alarms, troubleshooting, emergency response and continuous improvement
  4. Applied process-control and compliance dossier

Lesson and assessment map

01

Water quality, treatment trains, and operating calculations

Trace contaminants and treatment objectives through fictional drinking-water and wastewater trains using dimensional analysis and mass-balance reasoning.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

02

Process monitoring, sampling, laboratory quality, and regulatory records

Design a fictional monitoring plan that keeps operational control distinct from compliance evidence.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

03

Safety, alarms, troubleshooting, emergency response, and improvement

Use fictional trends and controlled response plans to protect people, treatment barriers and reporting integrity.

4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.

Required applied assignment

Water and wastewater process-control and compliance dossier

Repair the fictional plant audit and create one paper-only dossier covering treatment trains, calculations, monitoring, data quality, permit/rule evidence, safety, troubleshooting, emergency response and performance. Perform no operation, sampling, chemical handling, confined-space entry, hazardous-energy control or compliance/public notification.

  • Drinking-water and wastewater process maps with objectives, recycle/residual streams and barriers
  • Flow/loading/dose/detention/removal calculations with units, assumptions and validation
  • Operational/compliance monitoring, chain-of-custody, QC, result-validation and reporting matrix
  • Safety, alarm, troubleshooting, emergency/escalation and recovery record
  • Quality dashboard with duplicate repair, denominators, exclusions, missingness and balancing measures

Passing standard: 80 of 100 points, with substantive revision required.

Continue after this course

  • Verify drinking-water and wastewater certification tracks, grades, examinations, experience and renewal rules for the intended jurisdiction
  • Complete supervised laboratory and plant training on the exact source, collection/distribution, process, chemical, instrument, SCADA, permit and emergency plan
  • Maintain operating-hour, competency, calibration, sampling, safety and continuing-education records required by the certifying authority and employer
