Current availability
The subject-specific curriculum is authored but not yet published for completion. Learners may inspect its scope and learning design now. Start, grading, and completion remain unavailable until every listed gate passes.
- qualified review approval is required
- reviewer identity, qualification, evidence, and approval date are required
What this course establishes
- Interpret fictional drawings, weld symbols, bills of material and joint records without inventing design requirements
- Select and justify a paper-only process/joint/filler/preheat/sequence plan bounded by an approved WPS and qualifications
- Evaluate fictional fit-up, weld, inspection and traceability evidence and route nonconformities without performing welding or NDT
Entry knowledge
- Fractions, decimals, geometry, units, shop drawings and basic electricity/material awareness
- Ability to distinguish design drawing, joint detail, weld symbol, base/filler metal, process, WPS, qualification, fit-up, weld, inspection result and acceptance criterion
- Commitment to hot-work authorization, ventilation/exposure control, fire prevention, cylinder/electrical safety and stop-work authority
Scope boundaries
- All parts, drawings, WPSs, qualifications and inspection records are fictional. Learners must not strike an arc; weld, braze, solder, gouge or cut; energize equipment; handle electrodes, hot metal, shielding gases, oxygen/fuel cylinders or regulators; enter a confined space; disturb coatings; grind; rig; perform NDT; repair a pressure/structural component; or issue acceptance through this course.
- This is not welder/operator performance qualification, WPS/PQR qualification, certified welding inspector or NDT certification, registered apprenticeship or supervised hours, hot-work/fire-watch/confined-space/respiratory authorization, contractor license, college credit or professional certification.
- Only the current design, governing code, approved WPS, material/filler certificates, employer program, qualified personnel, calibrated equipment and authorized inspector govern real work. Internal completion or a fastest route never predicts code acceptance, sound welds, certification, safety or employment.
Fastest competency route
Completion is self-paced and competency-based. Prior knowledge may shorten conceptual study only when drawing, procedure, safety, inspection and revision evidence remains complete. Arc time, supervised practice, code tests, continuity, employer authorization and field qualification remain external; no fastest-hour, certification or employment promise is made.
- Pass diagnostics on symbols, metallurgy, processes, variables, safety, discontinuities, inspection and traceability
- Repair every planted defect in the fictional weld package audit
- Complete and defend the fabrication and quality dossier
Full self-paced route
- Drawings, weld symbols, materials, joints and heat effects
- Processes, WPS variables, fit-up, sequencing and safety controls
- Inspection, discontinuities, repair control, traceability and quality
- Applied fabrication and quality dossier
Lesson and assessment map
Drawings, weld symbols, materials, joints, and heat effects
Translate a fictional fabrication drawing into traceable joints, materials, dimensions and unresolved design questions.
4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.
Processes, procedure variables, fit-up, sequencing, and safety
Build a paper-only weld plan that links each joint to an approved procedure, qualified range and task-specific controls.
4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.
Inspection, discontinuities, repair control, traceability, and quality
Evaluate fictional fabrication evidence against stated criteria and route nonconformities without unauthorized acceptance or repair.
4 questions: recall, application, judgment, and error correction.
Required applied assignment
Weld fabrication and quality dossier
Repair the fictional fabrication audit and create one paper-only dossier from drawing and material control through procedure, qualification, fit-up, process, safety, inspection, nonconformance, repair and quality. Perform no welding, cutting, grinding, hot work, cylinder handling, confined-space entry, NDT or acceptance.
- Drawing/revision, weld-symbol, joint, material and filler traceability register
- WPS-variable, welder-range, fit-up, pass/sequence and heat/distortion control plan
- Hot-work, fire, ventilation/fume, coating, electrical, cylinder and access hold points
- Inspection/NDT rationale, discontinuity/criterion ledger and controlled nonconformance/repair traveler
- Final quality dashboard with duplicate repair, denominators, coverage, missingness and balancing measures
Passing standard: 80 of 100 points, with substantive revision required.
Continue after this course
- Verify the governing code, process, material group, thickness/diameter, position and qualification requirements for the intended sector and jurisdiction
- Complete supervised booths and field training with exact equipment, consumables, ventilation, PPE, WPS variables, positions and destructive/nondestructive evaluation
- Maintain continuity, qualification, procedure, material, inspection, exposure-control and continuing-competence records
