What this course establishes

  • Read and produce a small set of stress-marked Modern Greek greetings and distinguish informal singular from formal or plural address
  • Exchange name, origin, residence, and limited language information using appropriate person forms
  • State non-understanding, request repetition or slower speech, ask for spelling, and confirm a key detail

Entry knowledge

  • No prior Greek required
  • Ability to read or use an accessible alternative for short text in the modern Greek alphabet

Scope boundaries

  • Introductory A1-oriented interaction only; not fluency, dialect mastery, complete grammar, interpretation, translation, certification, Ancient Greek, Koine Greek, or professional-language qualification

Fastest competency route

No fluency or fastest-hour claim; acceleration depends on demonstrated listening, speaking, reading, writing, interaction, script, stress, address, and repair competence rather than isolated phrase recognition.

  1. Pass alphabet, stress, address, listening, pronunciation, and person-form diagnostics after approved audio exists
  2. Complete greeting, identity, and communication-repair performances
  3. Correct script, stress, person, register, meaning, and interaction errors in a final portfolio

Full self-paced route

  1. Script, stress, greetings, and address lesson with qualified-speaker audio
  2. Identity information and verb-person lesson
  3. Requests, clarification, and confirmation lesson
  4. Interaction portfolio, feedback, revision, and final assessment

  • Identity exchange covering name, origin, residence, and languages
  • Practical exchange containing non-understanding, a matched repair request, and confirmation
  • Line-by-line English functional meaning and annotation of at least four verb-person forms
  • Pronunciation rehearsal notes tied to approved speaker- and region-labeled audio once available
  • Revision memo correcting script, stress, person, register, meaning, or unsupported identity inference
