What this course establishes

  • Parse introductory noun, adjective, and finite-verb forms by morphological evidence
  • Explain subject, direct-object, indirect-object, possession, location, accompaniment, and motion functions in bounded sentences
  • Read and translate short controlled Latin using form, syntax, vocabulary, context, and revision rather than word order alone

Entry knowledge

  • No prior Latin required
  • Basic ability to identify English sentence roles or willingness to learn them here

Scope boundaries

  • Introductory reading and analysis only; not the full declension/conjugation system, historical linguistics, composition, textual criticism, epigraphy, paleography, spoken fluency, teacher preparation, certification, college-credit, or professional mastery

Fastest competency route

No fluency or fastest-hour guarantee; acceleration depends on demonstrated morphology, syntax, vocabulary, reading comprehension, contextual interpretation, pronunciation-standard labeling, and revision.

  1. Pass form, case-function, agreement, vocabulary, and reading diagnostics after approved pronunciation audio exists
  2. Complete parsing, sentence mapping, and controlled-passage translations
  3. Correct morphological, syntactic, lexical, contextual, and translation errors in a final portfolio

Full self-paced route

  1. Spelling conventions, vowel quantity, pronunciation standards, noun cases, and approved audio
  2. Verb-person agreement, adjective agreement, flexible order, and core vocabulary
  3. Prepositions, location/motion contrasts, reading procedure, and contextual translation
  4. Portfolio, feedback, revision, and final assessment
